Unfair leasehold practice — consultation within the industry

There has been much commentary on this consultation– particularly between investors and developers. The government announced proposals that;

  • The majority of new-build houses are to be sold as freehold and ground rent for new leasehold houses is to be capped at just £10.
  • There will be new measures to make it easier for leaseholders to get tenant associations formally recognised and protect consumer interests and
  • There should be a continuing push on making the property market fairer including a crackdown on rogue landlords and ending unfair charges for tenants.

Feedback from the consultation is now being analysed. Further announcements are expected in the new year – although the Government seems fairly distracted on other matters at the moment.
